Message from Oak Class
Welcome back! We hope you have had a fantastic holiday. We have really enjoyed looking at photographs; homework and listening to the pupils recall events using communication boards.
Throughout this half term, we will be working on the following activities:
Literacy: In our class story, we will be reading the story of ‘Giraffes can’t dance’. This book is particularly good at introducing and developing pupils understanding of rhymes, reinforcing emotions, character description and links very well to our class topic all about Africa. As well as developing a good understanding of the story, we will continue to develop our sounds through weekly phonics lessons, and develop our fine motor lessons in addition to 1:1 reading opportunities.
Numeracy: In our numeracy lesson, we will be focussing on size, money and capacity. We will be transferring these skills within our topics, food technology lessons, class stories and every day routines where possible. Pupils will also have opportunities to work upon their personal number targets throughout the school day.
Topic: This half term we will be learning all about ‘African Adventures’. We will be finding out all about where it is, the flag, weather, homes, food that is grown and eaten in this country and much more. We will be comparing the information we find with England and exploring the differences.
PE: We are lucky to be having an outside agency coming into school to deliver rugby. This remains a highly motivating lesson for our pupils. We will also be completing a short gymnastics course, which we started last half term. We certainly are going to be prepared for sports day!
Food technology: Our food tech skills have developed at a rapid rate this year. Therefore, this half term Oak class will be concentrating on methods to make simple meals. This will include following simple picture cues with a set of numbered instructions.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. Hopefully we will have lots of sunshine to enjoy too.
