Message from Lime Class
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the exciting things we have planned for the Summer term.
In the first half term our topic will be ‘Transport’. During these sessions we will be learning about different vehicles, how they look and the sounds they make.
In the Second half term our topic will be ‘Under the sea’. We will be learning about which sea creatures we can find under the water and of course will take part in lots of water play!!
During all of our sessions we will have opportunities to work on our individual ILP targets through a multi-sensory learning approach.
In our Literacy sessions our first story will be ‘We all go travelling by’. The story tells us of all the ways we can travel and the sounds the different transport makes, in the end we all hear the school bell as we have arrived for another school day. ‘We all go travelling by’ is a barefoot books story and can easily be found on YouTube if you would like to sing along at home. During literacy sessions we will focus on mark making skills and thinking about how we hold mark making tools. We will also be working on our fine motor skills through activities such as threading, and musical toys with buttons to press. We will have a focus this term on handling books in an appropriate way and we are so pleased with all the fantastic reading the children have been doing at home with their families through their reading books!
Within numeracy we are thinking specifically about numbers to 5 and colours. We will take part in lots of counting songs and explore numbers in a range of sensory ways. We will have the opportunity to look at different colours and will sort the colours into groups through different games and challenges. During our number sessions we will also be exploring a range of cause and effect toys and using switches in the sensory room.
Alongside all of this learning we will of course be working on our communication skills through PECS games and intensive interaction sessions. We will have the opportunity for massage and take part in other tactile activities such as tac pac and hands program. We will continue to take part in our food technology and fun before food sessions where we have the opportunity to see, smell and sometimes touch lots of different foods in a fun way through play without the pressure of tasting.
As always please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions
